THE DAGUERREOTYPE: AN ARCHIVE OF SOURCE TEXTS, GRAPHICS, AND EPHEMERA

The research archive of Gary W. Ewer regarding the history of the daguerreotype

On this day (February 4) in the year 1856, the following advertisement appeared under the header of "FINE ARTS" in "The New York Herald" (whole no. 7098): ------------------------------------------------------------- LARGE SIZE AMBROTYPES FOR FIFTY CENTS, IN- cluding a fine case.--What! daguerreotypes dead? yes, and buried by this late and beautiful discovery. These pic- tures are far superior to the daguerreotype, and but half the price, at JUBE'S gallery, 83 Bowery. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * M. Susan Barger sent in the following note: You might want to let your readers know that in the next several weeks there should be a rather extended piece on one of the NPR new programs: Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Weekend Edition...on Robert (Shlaer) and daguerreotyping. The interview was done by Howard Berkis and, yes, he went out in the snow in Utah along Fremont's trail with the Daguerreian Saloon. ---Susan ----------------------------------------------------------------- 02-04-96
